Canning Workshop

So you’ve grown lots of great vegetables and fruits during the summer months or you’ve bought in bulk from local farmers…how do you preserve all this for the winter months??

This hands-on workshop will teach you how preserve your food using a water bath canner and a pressure canner.  We’ll discuss the proper way to handle food before it’s canned and how to ensure a long shelf life.

During the class we’ll can some jam using seasonal fruits and can some soup with meat in the pressure canner.

There’s an amazing feeling of self sufficiency when the pantry shelves are full of food that you’ve preserved yourself!

Honey Harvest

“What a lot of fun, not to mention educational – and tasty! My family was able to not only see the whole honey-harvesting process, but actually roll up our sleeves and join in.”           Johnny Franklin

Honey Harvest Day happens once a year at the end of June or the beginning of July.  Each participant will help to harvest the honey from the honeycombs in our hives.  Take a taste of honey, comb and all, and see what you think!  Learn how much time and effort it takes our honeybees to make all this honey.

On this day, the majority of the learning comes from hands-on experience.  Each family will leave with a “thank you!” jar of honey to take home.

This class is limited, so please sign up immediately if you’re interested in joining us for this fun, sticky day!

Winter Gardening

“It’s so worth it!  This really makes me want to start gardening!”               Carol Hamilton

“Great class!  Very professional & helpful!  I love how you are using your God-given passion for your home, family, and reaching out to the community to help us see that we CAN grow things!”   Laurie Curtis

With the cost of food on the rise and an unsure economy, starting a garden makes a lot of sense…but it can be a little intimidating if you’ve never done it!

Our Winter Gardening Workshop is a wonderful place to start.  And starting in the cooler months eliminates those pesky bugs that want to eat up all your work!

Whether this is your first attempt at gardening or you’re frustrated with “row” gardening, try Square Foot Gardening.  We will teach you the basic fundamentals of Square Foot Gardening – a very successful technique I learned in suburban Seattle and still use today with a lot more land.  We will also discuss the techniques for growing in the winter months and what vegetables grow well in cooler weather.

This class will be a combination of lecture and hands-on, practical “doing.”

I’ve been growing vegetables for 22 years -  come and let me share a few tips with you so your garden will be full of good things to eat – even in the winter!

Beekeeping Introduction

The Beekeeping Basics Class is a great introductory class for those who would like to learn more about this incredible “lost art.”  Oft times, a fear of bees is due to incorrect information.  This class will introduce you to the real honeybee and the workings of their hive.  What does it mean to be “busy as a bee” or “making a bee line”?  How much honey does a bee make?  What does the Queen do?  Do you know what “royal jelly” is used for in a hive?  How much space do I need?

All of these questions and more will be answered during this class.  There will be a Q and A at the end of our class time.  If you decide to continue with the Lazy B Farm Beekeeping Series, your class fee for the Introduction will be applied to the Series fee.
